John qualified from Manchester University and followed a training program in Obs and Gynae in the North West where he developed an interest in Gynaecological Oncology. The training included a research fellowship at the Christie Hospital and Gynaecological cancer surgery fellowship in Sydney. 

He has been a Consultant in Gynaecology in Exeter for 20 years and now practices exclusively in the management of suspected and diagnosed cancers and pre-malignant disease within a specialist gynaecological cancer centre. This has also including time as cancer lead for the Trust and Associate Medical Director. 

He has been clinical director of the peninsula cancer alliance for over 3 years and has worked with colleagues on numerous projects across Devon and Cornwall and the whole South West region, including the implementation of FIT testing for low risk symptomatic patients, standardising the prostate cancer pathway and currently working with clinical teams to improve the effectiveness of MDT meetings. 

John also has an interest in improving screening uptake especially cervical screening by assessing novel approaches to maximise the opportunity for women to have their screening tests.
